It was just going to be a shortish ride of around 90 - 100 miles, in order to ease us back into the saddle after the Winter lay off. Most of us met up at our Pubmeet venue and set off at 9am to join up with other members at the Little Chef near Chester. We then headed into Wales via the new bridge and took the coastal route, eventually going up onto the top road via Lloc, Caerwys and down through Afon-wen to Denbigh, stopping at A&D Motorcycles for breakfast and a look at all the shiny stuff. Suitably refreshed, both with food, tea and lots of new bike viewing, we headed back out onto the sweeping Welsh roads, eventually passing through Ruthin and down through the back lanes to the Raven Inn for more refreshment before making the return journey back onto the Wirral. Although a little bit nippy, it was an excellent day out in really good company.

Think Biker!!

Manchester Motorcycle Show 14th-15th January 2012

Yesterday was the first day of the Manchester Motorcycle Show at the Gmex Centre and several members of the Club were in attendance, including Paul, Joanne, Emma, Ina and Ayla. Membership will be attending Motorcycle Live over it's 9 day duration and today was the turn of the Club's founder George Girven to attend with his son Ben. The show was jam packed with exhibitors including all the main motorcycle manufacturers and local interest for us too in the shape of PipeWerx, the Ormskirk based high performance exhaust company (see photos in slideshow). There were also plenty of opportunities to try out the bikes including the off road experience. Live auctions on behalf of "Riders for Health" was well supported with lots of motorcycle stars in attendance and a chance to meet and greet them. George managed to have a most informative chat with Guy Martin on the Red Torpedo stand and picked up a couple of autographed items too. This is a 'must visit' stand with great gear on sale!

<img style="BORDER-RIGHT-WIDTH: 0px; This was an organised ride for one of our newer members taking to the road on her YBR125 for a first time Club rideout. Amazingly, we were out from 8:00am until 3:45pm, partly due to the Liverpool Marathon taking place as we were heading back through the City to the Tunnel. Anyway, Rosann had an enjoyable first rideout with the Club and was fully protected during the ride by a number of the members riding 'shotgun'

Ride for Rotary 2nd October 2011

Wirral Bikers Motorcycle Club members once again attended the Annual "Rideforrotary" Charity ride in support of the following Charities, Claire House, Hope House, Help for Heroes and SPARKS. Instead of ending at the Ponderosa, it took in Loggerheads, Ruthin, Denbigh, St Asaph, Rhuddlan, Dyserth, Lloc, Carmel then down through Holywell onto the coast Road To Bagilt finishing at the Petrolheads Café for refreshments, a live band and general chit chat whilst admiring all the shiney stuff parked outside.

BMPS Annual Motorcycle Show - Llandudno

We had an excellent day out at the British Motorcycle Preservation Society's Annual Show held on the West Shore Promenade at Llandudno. The weather was overcast earlier on but it stayed warm and dry with the sun making an appearance later in the afternoon. A good selection of restored motorcycles were on display including some very rare models. This annual 36 mile route around the Wirral was altered slightly this year insomuch as, it did not terminate at Parkgate as usual but returned back to New Brighton instead, in the hope of seeing the Red Arrows fly over the River Mersey as part of their air display from the Southport Air Show.

The rideout having started at New Brighton went through Moreton, Saughall Massie, Greasby, Frankby, Caldy and on into West Kirby for the 1st stop of the day alongside the Marine Lake. Then it was off again through Caldy Village, Thurstaston, Heswall, Gayton and down into Parkgate for ice cream and liquid refreshment. Suitably refreshed the group set off through Neston, Little Ness, Burton, Willaston to Raby Mere for the 3rd stop of the day. Finally leaving there and heading straight back to New Brighton. We set off to meet up with some of our other members at the Station Cafe in Delamere. After some enjoyable refreshments we left the cafe and headed out through the Cheshire lanes onto the A54 Congleton Road through Winsford, Middlewich and then down to Nantwich, finally picking up the A51 to Tarporley with a meal break at the Shady Oak, Beeston. Considering it's mid February, a most enjoyable rideout in good Company.

Claire House Re-Scheduled Xmas Toy Run

Members of Wirral Bikers Motorcycle Club joined other Clubs and Riders yesterday, for the re-scheduled Annual Xmas Toy Run to Claire House Children's Hospice organised by Kelvin Sirrell and staff of Bill Smith Motors in Chester. This year a few new additons were added to that original route, extending it by another 6 miles which included stops at West Kirby prom and Raby Mere. Although a number of regular members were not available on the day for a variety of reasons, there was still an excellent turnout, including five new members joining us for the very first time. It was a warm dry day but the weather was more cloudy than sunny as we set off from New Brighton, the route took the riders through, Wallasey Village, Moreton, Saughall Massie, Greasby, Frankby, West Kirby, Caldy, Thurstaston, Heswall, Gayton, Thornton Hough, Raby Mere, Willaston, Puddington. Burton, Ness, Neston and finally arriving on the front at Parkgate. Liquid refreshments were sought at the Old Quay but a few of the members couldn't resist the delights of tasting the locally made ice cream instead. Thanks to all those attending for an excellent afternoon out, in good company, on a day when the 'drop off' system worked to perfection through efficient marking and so nobody got lost. Finally, a special thanks to Phil for a job well done in leading the ride! See you all soon for the Club's next event.

Sunday 27th June Rideout

Twelve riders on eleven bikes met up on Sunday morning for a rideout into Wales. The route taken included, Hawarden Woods, Landegla moor, the Nant-y-Garth pass, the B5105 Clocaenog Forest road with a pitstop for victuals at the Ty Tanllan Cafe alongside the Saracen's Head. Then it was onto the B4501 to Llyn Brenig for another stop before heading out to Betws-y-coed, then Swallow falls, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Llyn Celn and doing part of the mountain road back up to Bala before heading back home to the Wirral and beyond. Overall it was an excellent day out with nice sunny weather and in good company, the only thing to mar the day was one member's bike had to be trailered home by the RAC after his oil pump failed.

Pre Pubmeet Rideout Thursday 17th June 2010

A number of Wirral Bikers Motorcycle Club members met up at 6.30pm to head off into Wales for a pre pubmeet rideout. Originally planned as a 160 mile rideout it turned into a 207 mile one for the writer and probably more for our Cheshire members. All in all a good day out with good friends.

A few photos from the day.

Wednesday 19th May Rideout

Mark testing out his new mini cam on the B5105

Well that was another 131 miles of pure bliss, my thanks to Janie and Mark for their excellent company today and hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Slight alteration to our original plan insomuch as we played on some Welsh lanes first then headed back into Hawarden to do the twisties through the woods then up to Llandegla and then did the Nant-y-Garth pass (big grin factor) on into Ruthin for Bacon 'n egg on toast with a mug of tea at Jones the Butchers Cafe. We then left Ruthin on the B5105 to Cerrigydrudion (even bigger grin factor)

As the Cafe there was closed we headed down to Bala, found one on the main street and managed to force myself into having a Rhubard pie and ice cream with a large coffee.

Took some pics by the Lake and then headed back home via Ruthin, Mold and Deeside. Many thanks to Mark, Gemma, Janie and Martin for a most enjoyable group rideout, I hadn't expected to get beyond Pontybodkin after feeling so porky first thing this morning, just goes to show what sunshine, fresh air and a thick bacon bap can do for ya !!!

We met up at the Little Thief and set off through Hawarden Woods heading for the Llandegla Moors and on towards Corwen and the A5. It was here we had the first break of the day at the Farm Shop Cafe (humongous bacon bap) then it was back onto the A5 past Cerrigydrudion and on through Betws-y-coed to Capil Curig and then to take in the most stunning scenery of the Llanberis Pass as we rode to our destination of Pete's Eats in Llanberis itself.

After some delicious fare washed down with a pint mug of tea, we retraced our route back as far as Pentrefoelas and turned left to cross the moors to Denbigh and after reaching Afon Wen, we headed up over the top through Caerwys to take our third stop of the day at the Misty Waters in Lloc. Finally a short hop through Holywell and Flint with a burst over the New Bridge and we all went our seperate ways home. For me it was a nice 156 mile round trip and was good to be out on the bike again with friends.

(Slideshow courtesy of Mark)

Wirral Bikers went to Ridesafe Backsafe 2010

Wirral Bikers Motorcycle Club members headed up to Blackpool last Sunday for the Ridesafe Backsafe Rendezvouus 2010. There were several thousand bikers at the event and all were well provided for with live bands, trade exhibitors and motorcycle dealer stands. There was also Police motorcycle demonstrations and car stunt driving. The main biking interest of the show was provided by Craig Jones performing some incredible stunts on a number of different motorcycles. We will be posting some videos of this within the Wirral Bikers Channel on YouTube but until they are ready here is a little taster of what he does. Initially, a planned ride of about 100+ miles but on the day was extended to around 200. The Group headed off for breakfast at the "Midway" in Whitchurch, meeting up en route at the Stamford Bridge Inn on the A51 with another six of our members from Cheshire.

After a hearty breakfast the 12 bikes carrying a "bakers dozen" departed Whitchurch via the A525 and A559 to travel through Overton, Ruabon and Acrefair to join the A5 into Llangollen, up over the Horseshoe Pass to arrive at the Ponderosa Cafe for the second stop of the day.

At the Pondy it was decided to extend the rideout, so after arriving at Ruthin the Group turned left and headed down that splendid bikers road the B5105 through the Clocaenog Forest to Cerrigydrudion, then it was onto the B5401 to enjoy the views of Llyn Brenig as they headed towards Denbigh. From there it was a homeward bound journey through Mold and Deeside back onto the Wirral and beyond. The latter destination was referring of course, to the "Cheshire" set who chose for a change to miss out the motorways going home and enjoy instead the "sound benefits" of exercising their machines when going through the Mersey Tunnel.

An excellent day and a thoroughly enjoyable rideout for all those taking part. It was also a triumph for Phil(Philp) who was taking charge for his very first time as "Ride Leader" on the day. So well done to him and let's hope we can look forward to many more successful Club rideouts throughout this year. The Calendar of events is filling up fast so go to the Forum to keep up to date with all the latest news and photographs.

Phil(Falco), another one of our members has also invested in a videocam for this new 'season' and was on the rideout making a video of the day. This is Part one of his work.

Lake Vyrnwy, Bala and Brenig Rideout

Several Members of Wirral Bikers Motorcycle Club met up on Saturday 17th October for a rideout into North Wales. Not everyone could make the 10-30 am departure from the Tudor Rose so a collective meet up point was arranged at Rhug after a couple of the earlybirds had a brew over at A&D in Denbigh.

The group then rode up the A494 into Bala and across to Lake Vyrnwy. They then looped back around to Bala and across to Cerrig, past Llyn Brenig, Denbigh, Mold.

PhilP, one of the members taking part said later, "The weather was fine, the company was great, the riding was fantastic." So another successful day out on the bikes for W.B.M.C. Members.

Wirral Bikers Motorcycle Club - Goes Japanese

It seems that the Wirral Bikers Motorcycle Club is popular with the Japanese and so they show some of our rideout videos on their website

http://live.arukikata.co.jp/m/gagCxRDMcVE

http://live.arukikata.co.jp/m/BagE4Hf1njY/

http://live.arukikata.co.jp/m/gagCxRDMcVE/related/jo5Poi4u9xw/

Delamere Forest and Cheshire Villages Rideout

Several members of Wirral Bikers met up in Prenton at 10:00am, to welcome two new Club members who were joining us for the first time on a group rideout. After introductions, we set off down the M53 to junction 5 to collect another member at the Little Chef, then headed out to Sandiway in Cheshire to meet up with the rest of the group and some of our friends from NWB for todays rideout. Ride leader today was Mark and many thanks to him as he showed us some of the delights of riding in Delamere Forest, including a late breakfast stop at the Station Cafe for all things tasty including the famous "Station Batch".

Suitably fed and watered, he led us through the Cheshire countryside enjoying quaint little villages and a variety of country lanes and twisty roads. Finally, taking a mid afternoon stop at a lovely little country pub for some non-alcholic liquid refreshment and to enjoy the general good natured banter. As the day was now coming to a close we rode from there to re-assemble at Sandiway once again, in order to say our final farewells and then head off for home in different directions.

Again many thanks to Mark for the planning, another good day's rideout in excellent company and only a small amount of precipitation that made little difference to our enjoyment. The video is being edited and will soon appear on the Wirral Bikers' Channel on Y0u Tube but in the meanwhile here are some photographs from today.

Delamere Forest to Beeston Castle 26th September

Having met up in Widnes, we went over the bridge, through Runcorn and then on into the leafy lanes of Cheshire.... heading through Delamere Forest our first port of call was the Station Cafe for a pot of tea and a famous "Station Bap" (you'll never believe the size of those things and I just couldn't finish mine)

Suitably fed and watered we continued on further down the County taking in the delights of Beeston Castle and eventually stopping at the Shady Oak for some non-alcoholic refreshment and to take advantage of the free entertainment. After the "Strangled Cat" first act had finished the more melodious "Shady Oak Trio" (Albeit they were reduced to a duo for the day) were a great improvement. However, before actually starting that route we made a detour to take in some refreshment at the Raven Inn and discovered that we are about to be part of a documentary, as a film crew started to film us getting ready to depart and also as we rode off.

Transport Exhibition in the Park

Took the opportunity today to have a look at the Transport Exhibiton held in Birkenhead Park. A variety of vehicles were on show from steam traction engines to steam motor cars. These were complimented by petrol and diesel engined exhibits, including Armed Forces vehicles, Fire engines, cars and of course motorcycles. One stand in particular, Custom Bills, was given over to showing the intricate art of airbrush paintwork. I particularly enjoyed Tony's work on a Suzuki Bandit that represented the Battle of Britain and have chosen photographs of that machine to show here.

Club Tee Shirts

Some sample pictures of the new Club tee shirts - However there are 6 colours to choose from so please see the "How to Order" details on the Club Forum. On the night the route was changed slightly. We left the pub cark park at 7.25pm and missed out the Bidston Hill bit as was meeting two other riders at the BP garage near Spital @ 7.40pm. Have to say the Spital/Dibbins Dale/Raby Mere/Neston back lanes part of the rideout were quite tricky and not as easy as I had previously remembered them as being. That said, it was an enjoyable rideout on a nice evening, with good company. We eventually arrived at the Harp Inn just as a shower started. The Pub really is in a lovely location right on the edge of the Dee marshes but have to say travelling the last 400yds of the approach road to the pub was a real test... We never had the numbers we originally envisaged, as quite a number withdrew due to other committments. However, for those who went it was an almost perfect weekend... the weather was absolutely glorious as the sun shone for the whole time we were there, the scenery and views from the 'Hut' were magnificent and the rides out extremely enjoyable. There is a photographic slideshow at the very bottom of this page but I have now added some video footage of the return ride through the Llanberis pass on the Sunday. This footage is in 3 parts and so to see all of it, scroll down to the bottom of this text. My appologies for the camera shake but it was my first attempt to film from the bike...and was not easy holding the videocam whilst simultaneously operating the throttle and clutch......He hee yes you guessed it, in reality I mounted the camera on the handlebars, not taking into account that the front suspension would cause problems. I put this down to a 'Senior' moment.... Still at least you will get a flavour of the ride and its views.

Llanberis, Ludlow & 18th April 2009. The earliest acceptable arrival time for the Friday afternoon will be posted on the Forum as soon as it is confirmed. We will also have in excess of 20 riders and so it has been suggested that, rather than try and cook for the whole group, it may be easier to eat out. Details of the proposed diner for both breakfasts and evening meals will be posted on the main Forum. The above notwithstanding, people are still free to bring their own food with them and cook it "in house". In any event it would be sensible for people to bring milk, tea or coffee with them anyway, for having drinks whenever they require. The proposed route and map for Saturday's rideout from Llanberis to Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire can be found a little further down this page, immediately underneath the Countdown recorder.

New Webpage

Welcome motorcyclists to the new webpage of Wirral Bikers, it has been created to visually show who we are and what we do.
